Barbados is an island of great beaches, and Southern Palms sits on one of the best beaches on the South Coast, in the middle of the St Lawrence Gap.
Southern Palms is an institution on the island of Barbados. Sunday's feature the popular Bajan Brunch and steel pan band at the open air restaurant and newly renovated beach bar.
Dover Beach is long and wide and filled with mounds of soft white sand. 
The surf on one end of the beach is rough, while the other end is protected by a reef, and perfect for swimming.
Southern Palms sits directly in the middle of Dover Beach with a wonderful full view of the Caribbean Sea.
The grounds at Southern Palms are very well manicured featuring ancient Casuarina and palm trees for shade, along with a wide variety of local flowers and shrubs.
The architecture is a blend of traditional and Barbadian design with
buildings that stretch over 1000 ft. of beach frontage, set in lush tropical gardens.
The pool is located in the center of the property, and faces the ocean. 
The open air restaurant and bar are to the left of the pool. This area has recently been renovated to include a marble bar that is recessed in the floor, along with new furniture.
92 units with 3 categories to choose from. Due to the variances in architecture of the buildings the rooms will differ slightly. Just about every room offers a view of the ocean.
Every room or suite is air conditioned and appointed with Caribbean style decor, private bathroom, balcony or patio and all units have telephone, radio and television.
Facilities include live entertainment by popular bands or steel band and a restaurant with beautiful seaside
setting.
Amenities: Swimming pool, two night lit tennis courts, free water sports including windsurfing and weekly scuba instruction. There is a mini golf course and shuffleboard court with weekly tournaments.
Southern Palms is a quiet hotel but its location along the cobblestone mile long roadway of St Lawrence Gap will allow guests to step out and walk to the many restaurants, rum shops, and nightclubs for which the "Gap" is well known.
Agents Note: Southern Palms is not known as a luxury hotel, but location, location, location is the reason why guests return each year. The grounds are beautiful, along with the hotel exterior, pool, restaurant, lobby and bar. There is no better location on Dover Beach, but the rooms have been rated as 3 star for awhile. The rooms are always clean, but rather dated. I hear the rooms have been upgraded, and this may get the ranking up to 4 star, which I would definitely rate the rest of the property. I will check this out in February 2006.
