Ferry to Link Barbados, St Vincent, St Lucia and Dominica

How many times have I blogged about a regional ferry service that would serve Barbados, along with the other neighboring islands? Too many times - with no results. So, I have held off on blogging about the Caribbean Rose, but it appears that a ferry service will actually be launched - Linda

According to the Trinidad & Tobago Newsday, and the Barbados Advocate a new ferry will very soon link Trinidad, Barbados, St Vincent, St Lucia and Dominica.

The need for a passenger/cargo sea transport system serving the eastern Caribbean area should be eased shortly with the expected launch of a ferry system out of Port-of-Spain, Trinidad

The steel-hulled ferry has a capacity for 300 passengers, both in cabins and seating arrangements. Additionally, the 2,558 gross ton vessel can accommodate 55 vehicles and 400 tons of general cargo.

In addition to cargo, Caribbean Rose will offer a much needed sea link for tourists to island hop. The estimated cost will be US $10 to $15 per person per night for cabin accommodations. Meals will be provided at an additional cost.

More reports when the Caribbean Rose takes to the sea!

This ferry was on the cards since last July (2006). It was suppose to have been launched then. But it did not. Let us see if it really does this time.

I certainly hope the service does indeed launch. We have so many requests for island hopping from Barbados, and clients just cannot understand why this service has not been available.

Thanks for stopping by, and hope all is well with you.
