Barbados Looking to Export Specialty Sugar

The colonial history of Barbados has always been tied to sugar cane and rum. Now it appears Barbados is going to make big buck from sugar cane again - Linda

According to an article in the Nation News, Barbados is looking to export its specialty sugar (Plantation Reserve) to other countries after having success in the British marketplace.

Barbados Bans Poultry from England

Bird Flu Outbreak on English Poultry Farms

In a move to protect the islands poultry industry, Barbados agriculture officials have placed a ban on all poultry and poultry products originating from England

The ban will remain in place until further notice, and includes all avian species including pet birds as well as animal products such as feathers.

Over 160,000 turkeys have been slaughtered in Britain in an attempt to contain the bird flu outbreak.

Banks Brewery Coming to U.S.

My husband's gonna love this posting . . . he's a fan of Banks beer!

banks beer barbados.jpgBHL, Barbados' largest beverage supplying group is seeking access to the U.S. market early next year with some of its brewed products.

The main target in the U.S. would be the eastern seaboard and the Caribbean Diaspora, which the company feels is well-suited to the flavor of the BHL brewed products.

BHL needs to re-think its strategy on that one. America is full of beer lovers, and many of the millions of beer drinkers are open to trying a new brand - Linda

CEO, Richard Cozier disclosed that they had hoped to get the Banks brand into the market this year, but because of legal specifications this cannot be achieved.

He explained that the preferred host brewer for the U.S. market has suggested early spring next year as the prime time, as the winter months in the U.S. have been described as off peak.

I just have to add this. Did anyone tell them about basketball season here in the U.S. - "Millions" of guys sitting around at home drinking beer for months, watching the games and playoffs, and the ladies can testify to that!

Cozier noted that the U.S. brings a tremendous amount of opportunities for the group's products and they are seeking to take advantage of these opportunities. They were hoping to have the product launched on the Labor Day weekend in the U.S., but this is not possible.

Known as the 'Beer of Barbados', Banks is a premium Pilsner-style lager brewed from Austrian and British grains and Barbados water filtered through limestone rock.

Banks Beer is not available outside English-speaking Caribbean nations. Banks Breweries also produces Legends Premium Lager, non-alcoholic malt beverages Tiger Malt and Tiger Vanilla, fruit beverages Fruesta and Twist Shandy and an energy drink called Plus.

One more thing, I wish BHL well, but the marketing strategy should also include the U.S. Midwest, along with the Western states.
