National Heroes Day
Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 05:57PM April 28 was declared National Heroes Day in Barbados back in 1998 by Prime Minister Owen Arthur.
The day is dedicated to honour 10 National Heroes who each contributed to making a tremendous difference in Barbadian society.

Sir Grantley Herbert Adams - First Premier of Barbados, Lawyer, West Indies Federation Leader, Social Reformer
Errol Walton Barrow - First Prime Minister known as the "Father of Independence, Helped form Democratic Labor Party, Co-Founder of CARICOM and Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA),Instrumental in the formation of the University of the West Indies Campus at Cave Hill and Barbados Community College
Bussa - 18th Century Freedom Fighter - Bronze emancipation statue was erected in his honor (pictured above)
Mrs. Sarah Ann Gill - Promoted Methodism & Religious Freedom
Charles Duncan O'Neal - Doctor & Social Activist
Clement Osbourne Payne - Advocate For the Poor
Samuel Jackman Prescod - Social Activist, Member of Parliament, Judge of the Assistant Court of Appeal.
Sir Hugh Worrell Springer - Educator, Politician, Organized Labor Leader, Member of Parliament/House of Assembly, and was appointed Head of State
Sir Garfield Auburn Sobers - Legendary Cricket Player - In 1975, Queen Elizabeth II bestowed Garfield Sobers with the honor of Knighthood
