New Caribbean Inter-Island Ferry Service

Is this finally becoming a reality? I remember back during Cricket World Cup in 2007 when Royal Zante Cruises based in St Kitts was going to offer offer year round cruising, inter-island ferry and cargo service.  Will provide updates when service actually starts - Linda

Yesterday Benjamin Ross, CEO of the Grenada-based BEDY Ocean Lines, said his company is making significant progress with various logistical matters - which is why the start-up of the ferry service has been delayed.

The new ferry will service Barbados, St Vincent, St Lucia, Trinidad and Grenada. Two ferry vessels will have a seating capacity of 260 to 300 passengers.

One of the ferry's will be based on the island of St Vincent, and offer service to Barbados and St Lucia.

The other ferry will be based out of Grenada, and offer service to Trinidad and Barbados.

The cost is estimated to be 1/3 the amount it cost to travel to the islands by air. In October 2009, the ferry line announced fares of US$120 and US$140 - inclusive of government taxes associated with inter-island travel including VAT.
