Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup

Since its inception in 1982, the Barbados Gold Cup aimed to be the most prestigious horse race in the Caribbean.

The Sandy Lane Gold Cup attracts some of the best in thoroughbred racing from North America, Canada and other places around the globe.

For the first 15 years the race was sponsored by Cockspur rum, and for the last 15 years it has been sponsored by the world class Sandy Lane Hotel.  

The Barbados Advocate reports that the Gold Cup has arrived in Barbados. A Boeing 777 touched down yesterday at the Grantley Adams Airport bringing the solid gold trophy to the island.

The Sandy Lane Gold Cup certainly attracts some of the best in thoroughbred racing from North America, Canada and other places around the globe. It is also a time when some of the more fortunate can escape the winter blues and come to Barbados to enjoy the bright sunny days and cool breezy nights.

The returning visitors will notice the new luxury condominium developments on both the west and south coast of Barbados. One of these Barbados Luxury Condominiums won an international award for "Best Luxury Apartments" in the world. This is truly an amazing accomplishment for our lovely little island.
