Barbados Sports Destination Update

ONE WORLD-CLASS sporting event a month
That is what the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) is targeting to promote Barbados as the premier sporting destination in the Caribbean.
Gregory Armstrong, the BTA's manager of sports tourism, made the announcement at a Press conference at the Divi Southwinds Resort yesterday. He said they would be working on this project in the next 14 to 20 months.
The BTA also has a team comprising a cadre of international figures, collaborating with technical director Rawle Clarke to increase the appeal of the Run Barbados series, which will be celebrating its silver anniversary this year.
One event which will be used to attract more competitors in the Run Barbados series is the Run In The Sun, a five-kilometre event which is slated for February 12 and will bring 200 overseas competitors to the island.
Organizer Jerry Freisen said he came up with the concept after competing in the Run Barbados series in 2003.
