Oil Prices Puts Pressure on Barbados Cruise Industry
Continued increases in oil prices have put further pressure on Barbados' cruise industry.
Cruise arrivals in Barbados have fallen approximately 15% for the first three months of 2006. Port Authority officials today confirmed that Bridgetown has lost one of its scheduled cruise lines.
The "Carnival Legend" (pictured sailing into the port of New York) was scheduled for a January sailing, but has now dropped Barbados from its itinerary, citing high fuel charges for its decision.
The Legend's marketing brochures called for 11 sailings this year to Barbados, with over 20,000 passengers.
Lot's of disappointed passengers who were looking forward to seeing Barbados for the first time. In fact the only reason many chose this particular ship was its itinerary to Barbados.
