Royal Barbados Police Band

If there's anything positive to say about winter in the Midwest, it will certainly make you appreciate having a little over two weeks of sun on a Caribbean island . . . mainly Barbados.  It's been over a week and I'm a little depressed being back in this dreary, cold weather, but this is where I live and so it's back to the real world.

The Royal Barbados Police Band

We had the pleasure of seeing the Royal Barbados Police Band at Queens Park.  Most visitors aren't aware that the band is well known internationally and extremely well respected. They have performed in Scotland, Germany, London, Canada and in the U.S. at Disney World and Radio City Music Hall. In all the years of traveling to Barbados we always managed to miss a performance of the police band, but this year we managed to secure a seat in the park.

If you think you can imagine what a police band sounds like, then you are probably wrong. The band plays a mix of Calypso, Salsa, Light Jazz, typical band sounds and music you can't quite catagorize. We definitely enjoyed the performance, and will make a point to see them again when we're in Barbados. The band has two CD's on the market, Vision and Bajan Gems. A link below is provided so you can listen. If you don't have Real Player, you can install for free.
