Getting married in Barbados is very simple as there is no required waiting waiting period or  minimum length of stay. 

 

barbados wedding cake.jpgWithin the first few days of your visit you will be required to visit the Ministry of Home Affairs in the capital city of Bridgetown to obtain the marriage license.

This is the only official and mandatory duty required.

 

 

General Requirements For A Marriage License:

  • Valid passport*, or the original or certified copy of the applicant's birth certificate

  • If either party was married previously an widowed, a certified copy of the marriage certificate and death certificate for the deceased spouse.

  • If either party was divorced, an original Decree Absolute or certified copy of the Final Judgement

  • All documents not in English must be accompanied by a translation certified by an authorized Notary Public (NOT a Justice of the Peace).

  • A letter from the marriage officer who has agreed to perform the marriage ceremony

  • Fees: if neither party is a citizen or resident of Barbados - BDS $150.00 cash and a $25.00 stamp

  • Persons under the age of sixteen cannot be legally married in Barbados.

  • For persons between the ages of sixteen and eighteen, the consent of both parents must be obtained and both parents must be present at the time of application. 

  • Persons eighteen years and older do not require parental consent.


* All U.S. and Canadian citizens are required to have a valid passport to enter the island of Barbados.
